Uranus and Neptune are called the ice giants because the matter they were originally formed from was in the form of ice. Today, Uranus consists mostly of gas and liquid, mainly water, ammonia and methane. The very core is probably composed of rock.

Unlike the more eventful Neptune, the weather can be quite stable on Uranus. This gives the planet’s surface a very even turquoise tone.
